I don't claim to be an expert fisherman ... just a guy who loves to fish and has been blessed for his efforts. I learned a long time ago that in fishing, and in much of life, you get out of it what you put into it. I work hard when fishing, I study a lot, and always try to learn something on every outing. I hope you can use the information I post on this blog to learn something as well. Thanks for following along!

Secret Weapon?

Hmmm ... I may have to try these for bass on the grass flats with a sinking Ribbit frog or a Banjo Minnow behind it!

I'm Ready to Do Some Bassin!

Drove past my favorite bass lake on the way home from church today. It was glass calm and warming in the afternoon sun. I can't wait for the opener in two weeks! Got a shipment of one of my favorite clear, cool water lures... Banjo Minnows! Don't laugh ... they work! :)

Here's a pig I caught under a dock last summer on a Banjo:

Happy Easter!

He is risen, indeed!

"One more try" pays off big!

Got in the water this morning at 6:00 (which means I get up at 3:40 a.m.). Floated spawn until 10:30 without a bite, then went to the marina for an hour or so. Decided I had had enough about noon and took off for home. Or so I thought. Drove over the bridge on the way out and decided to give it one more try. Lost a gorgeous hen steelie on the first drift, got torn off by a HUGE buck steelie on the next drift, then caught a 30" hen on my next drift.

Ended up 2 for 5 in a half hour. Decided to give it a rest at 2:00 ... went with my good buddy Collin to another spot where he got a nice hen brown. Went back again to the original spot and fished until 4:30 ... then gave up. Collin went on to get 5 steelies and our buddy Joe got 3 as well. When they turned on today ... they really turned on!

That will probably be it for Steelheading for the year. I have some serious catching up to do on chores at home and bass season starts in a month. Can't wait for the Kings to start running in September!!!!!!!

Rain is a come'n ...

Storms are moving into the area and we're going to get some decent rain. I believe that's going to raise the river again and push the Steelies right back into my lap on Tuesday morning. The water is bound to be dirty, so ... it's time to try some "super sacs" ... over-sized sacs with plenty of Borx o Fire and a little tail left on the sac. I've never done this before, but ...
