I don't claim to be an expert fisherman ... just a guy who loves to fish and has been blessed for his efforts. I learned a long time ago that in fishing, and in much of life, you get out of it what you put into it. I work hard when fishing, I study a lot, and always try to learn something on every outing. I hope you can use the information I post on this blog to learn something as well. Thanks for following along!

If you have any free time to fish this weekend ...

I just heard from a buddy that another buddy got over 30 salmon yesterday. AND ... I trust this source! They don't joke about this stuff or exaggerate their stories. The salmon are thick in the tribs and harbors right now! The rain pulled everything in... more Kings and Cohos ... and the trout will be right behind!

Happy Friday!

Go get some fish tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

River Salmon Fishing Video

If this doesn't make you want to go fishing ... you're probably not alive! From our friends at Pautzke's ...

Ready to Start Installing ...

Tonight I start installing goodies on my boat to get it prepared for Saturday morning! I've got 3 rod holder bases and a pair of rope cleats to attach. Then it's load it up with enough rope to tie onto slips ... throw the anchors inside to hold us in position in the river ... make sure the planer boards are in the boat for trolling ... and load the Jeep up with my gear. Then I need to re-spool some reel, retie some leaders, and get the bait trays organized again.

I might not even have time for a beer! Wait ...

Coho Action Starting to Heat Up

Got a report from Collin Venn that he and friend Darian Garrison picked up 3 Coho over the weekend from shore. The rain we're getting will definitely heat the action up soon. I saw plenty of Browns and also heard of Steelhead being caught over the weekend.

Three weeks from today I start my "fishing vacation". I won't be leaving the water a whole lot during the week!

This beast tried to eat my Flicker Shad about noon today. It lost the battle! You can find more info on the fish at my blog at wisconsinoutdoorfun.com

I Never Would Have Guessed When ..

... I woke up this morning that I'd own a boat today. But, after 30 years of trying ... I bought a boat today. It's not the newest, biggest, or fastest ... but it's mine! It appears to be perfect for me. Plenty big to fish the harbors, Madison chain, and spring river walleyes. It will be a trolling machine by the time I'm done with it! I'll try to put more pics up when I pick it up tomorrow.

Secret Weapon?

In the quest to always find that "secret weapon" ... (which often times ends up costing me a lot of money!) I was recently made aware of this "dipping dye", a product that allows you to brush on(or Q-tip)a dye that dries almost instantly and adds a remarkable chartreuse glow to spoons, cranks, and just about anything else (like fingers, carpeting, etc). I've ordered a couple of bottles and I'll field test it a little in the next few weeks.

Need Some Help with Trout and Salmon Locations?

This stocking report by the Wisconsin DNR will help. Remember, Kings and Cohos have much shorter life cycles than Browns and Steelhead!

Salmon Run Peaking?

Got out with my buddies Tom and Troy today for a trip with Eric Haataja. Ended up 9 for a ton with 8 Kings and a Coho. Lost a pile of fish in the sail boat moorings. Got them on skein, cranks, and trolling. Fish were pretty thick but just kept moving around so you had to chase them. Half the fish are probably in the harbors now. Coho's are just starting to come in.

The Harbors are Stacked!

Had a blast catching a few salmon yesterday and meeting Blake Hamilton for the first time. Got the first one at 7:00 am on a fire tiger J-13 and the second on skein at about 6:00 p m. Those were the only two bites I had.

Salmon are thick in the harbors ... but a little stacked up because of warm water. They are not running up the rivers just yet.

And the Verdict Is ...

Every report i'm reading on the internet says the Salmon aren't in yet, waters too muddy, etc. Then my buddy goes fishing for a few hours and gets four (and loses 2 more because he forgets his net). I just don't know whether or not its worth the drive tomorrow. :)

Salmon Action is Picking Up!

My buddy Kyle Deavers is reporting regularly that he is picking up Kings at the harbor mouth. Last night he got this pair of BIGGIN's! I can't stand seeing these pics of him and my fish anymore :) ... so I'm heading over on Saturday.

Countdown to Butt Kicking

Throwing all new line on the reels tonight ... work 15 hours tomorrow ... Packer game on Thursday ... date with my bride on Friday ... SALMON FISHING ON SATURDAY!!!!!!!!! All the reports are saying the 4 year-old class this year contains some HUGE fish. Hopefully the water clears up and cools down by the weekend so I can tie into at least one beast that's probably going to kick my butt!
